The registrar’s office of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has refused to entertain a plea seeking to restore Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

A citizen Rai Ishtiaq Ahmed filed a petition in the apex court looking for the restoration of assemblies but the court registrar’s office returned the request after raising objections. The federal government, the election commission, and the caretaker governments in Punjab and KP had been made respondents in the petition.

The petitioner submitted that “The Supreme Court should order to restore Punjab and KP assemblies. “The caretaker governments of Punjab and KP should be stopped from working,” the petition demanded.

“The provincial assemblies should complete five years according to the law. It is unconstitutional to keep the people away from their elected representatives,” it added.

The registrar's office of the Supreme Court raised objections that the petitioner did not approach the relevant forum despite its availability.

The court registrar said the petitioner is also not the aggrieved party to the case. The petition also does not provide constitutional justification to exercise powers by the court under Article 184(3). The Registrar’s office returned the petition for restoration of assemblies with objections.
