Pakistan detects 3,550 more corona cases, 101 deaths in a day

The number of daily coronavirus infections and fatalities in Pakistan has been steady for some weeks hovering around 4,000 cases and 100 deaths with no signs of any let-up.

Pakistan registered 101 Covid-19 deaths and 3,559 infections during the last 24 hours (Tuesday), showed the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday morning.

As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 101 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 25,889 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,163,688 after adding the fresh 3,559 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), a total of 53,637 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 6.63 percent.

During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), as many as 4,140 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,043,898. As of Wednesday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 93,901.

As many as 432,637 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 394,738 in Punjab, 162,402 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 99,516 in Islamabad, 32,248 in Balochistan, 32,228 in Azad Kashmir and 9,919 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 11,915 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 6,910 in Sindh, 4,988 in KP, 866 in Islamabad, 698 in Azad Kashmir, 339 in Balochistan and 173 in Gilgit Baltistan.

- 4.5 million dead -
The coronavirus has killed at least 4,507,823 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to an AFP compilation of official data. 

The US is the worst-affected country with 638,715 deaths, followed by Brazil with 579,574, India with 438,560, Mexico 258,491 and Peru 198,263.

Based on the latest reports, the United States registered the most new deaths with 1,135, followed by Russia with 795 and Iran with 669.
