Awam Express derailed, lines shut, passengers stranded near Khanpur
Peshawar-to-Karachi-bound Public Express derailed near Khanpur Railway Station after two of its carriages went off the tracks due to alleged negligence by a pointsman, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the details, the incident occurred when the pointsman reportedly changed the track switch while the train was still running, causing one of the carriages to move onto a different track.
The railway officials confirmed to the media that all passengers remained safe and no injuries were reported.
The derailment disrupted all train movement on the down track, and the railway authorities immediately arrived at the site to begin rescue and restoration operations.
The officials stated that it would take approximately three to four hours to restore the track.
Due to the accident, lines number two and three have been closed, leaving passengers anxious and travel plans disrupted.
Sources claim the mishap occurred because of the pointsman’s alleged oversight, which resulted in the train carriages being diverted mid-run.
Despite the chaos, the railway administration assured that operations would resume within hours.
