Chaos and violence erupted in Karachi’s Federal B Area after a tragic accident claimed the lives of a brother and sister, leaving their father seriously injured, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the TV channel report, the collision occurred between a motorcycle and a dumper, killing Mahnoor and Ahmad Raza on the spot.
The fatal crash unleashed a wave of public outrage. Enraged onlookers set seven dumpers on fire and brutally assaulted a dumper driver in retaliation.
Police rushed to the scene, urging the mob to remain calm and warning them against taking the law into their own hands.
In response to the attack, the Dumper Association blocked the Karachi Super Highway, triggering massive traffic disruptions and causing long lines of vehicles to pile up on the roads.
Law enforcement later arrested ten individuals suspected of torching the dumpers and attacking the driver.
The family of the sibling who died in the road accident, overcome with grief, said that the young girl, Mahnoor, was getting married next month, and the family had collected all the dowry items.
She was the eldest among seven siblings, while her brother, Ahmed, was the youngest.
The killed sibling's uncle, Zakir, said that justice should be provided to us, and the dumper owner should be punished in public.
On the other hand, the Dumper Association protested at 3 places in Karachi, where SP Gulberg held talks with the protesters on Rashid Minhas Road.
Accidents involving motorcycles and dumpers are tragically common in Karachi.
In recent months, such incidents have ignited heated disputes between MQM leaders and Sindh government ministers.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori had earlier warned that if authorities failed to curb dumper-related fatalities, Karachi’s citizens might take matters into their own hands.
