Lahore's first 'Wahga Heritage Corridor' nears completion

The construction of Lahore’s first dedicated tourism highway, the Wagah Heritage Corridor, is nearing completion, promising top-class travel facilities for thousands of commuters and tourists visiting the Wagah Border, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday. 

According to details, stretching from Quaid-e-Azam Interchange to the Zero Line at the Wagah Border, the 13-kilometre dual carriageway has so far cost Rs 2.85 billion.

Designed to enhance connectivity and promote tourism, the 68-foot-wide main road is accompanied by 20-foot-wide service roads on both sides to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The project also included the installation of over 22 kilometres of RCC drainage systems, the construction of a 10-kilometre decorative wall, and the fitting of modern solar-powered streetlights.

Work began in January and is progressing rapidly towards completion.

According to commuters, once operational, the highway will significantly improve access for both local and foreign tourists coming to witness the daily flag-lowering ceremony at the Wagah Border.

It will also cater to the thousands of Sikh pilgrims arriving from India.

During their journey, travellers will be greeted with portraits of national heroes, artistic lighting, and scenic landscaping. 

CM Maryam Nawaz stated, "This corridor represents our commitment to world-class infrastructure that serves both citizens and showcases our rich culture to international visitors."

With final touches underway, the corridor is expected to open fully by next month.
