Driver sets his rickshaw ablaze in Peshawar

A driver set his rickshaw ablaze at Dalazak Road in Peshawar, protesting against the City Traffic Police, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

Reportedly, a traffic warden stopped the rickshaw driver and issued him a ticket for not having a driving license and the vehicle’s registration documents.  

He was so much frustrated over the move that he set his vehicle on fire as a mark of protest. He even tried to commit self-immolation that was foiled by the passersby.  A video went viral in this regard.

The unfortunate aspect of the event is that a traffic official kept making a video of a fire on a rickshaw instead of stopping him.

The rickshaw driver Ehsanullah held on the occasion,” We are worried about buying flour and ghee, the traffic officials challan us”.

The city traffic police spokesperson issued an explanatory statement after the video of burning a rickshaw went viral.

The spokesperson maintained that the vehicle’s driver did not have a driving license and rickshaw registration at the spot. “When the traffic officer issued a challan for not having documents, the rickshaw driver set fire to his rickshaw in protest,” the traffic police said.

The driver tried to set himself on fire, the spokesperson added.

Relatives of the rickshaw driver appealed not to act against him and said that his mental balance was not right, the spokesperson held. 

Traffic police did not act against the rickshaw driver due to humanitarian concerns.
