Pak former coach Mickey Arthur gets new role in UK

Mickey Arthur, the head coach of Derbyshire, has been appointed as the director of cricket for the Northern Superchargers, a franchise in England's Hundred competition. This dual role will see Arthur continuing his commitment to Derbyshire while lending his expertise to the Superchargers in a largely advisory capacity.

Despite Derbyshire's challenging 2024 season—finishing last in Division Two of the County Championship with only one win in 14 matches and missing out on knock-outs in both the T20 Blast and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup—Arthur's wealth of managerial experience, including a stint as Pakistan's team director, has made him a valuable asset to the Superchargers.

In his new role, Arthur will provide guidance on team recruitment and support the head coaches of the men's and women's teams, Andrew Flintoff and Lisa Keightley, respectively. However, Derbyshire emphasized that his involvement with the Superchargers will not detract from his primary responsibilities at the county, particularly during the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, which overlaps with the Hundred.

"Derbyshire remains my primary focus, and I’m committed to achieving our goals of bringing success to the club," Arthur stated. He highlighted Derbyshire's philosophy of encouraging players and staff to grow by engaging with new environments.

Derbyshire's chief executive, Ryan Duckett, reaffirmed Arthur’s dedication to the club. "Mickey lives and breathes Derbyshire, and we see this opportunity as a way to showcase the talent and work happening here," Duckett said. He also praised the positive developments over the winter, including key players like Wayne Madsen and Zak Chappell winning silverware overseas and others like Harry Moore and Pat Brown representing Derbyshire within England’s setup.

With preparations intensifying for the 2025 season, Derbyshire is optimistic about turning their fortunes around under Arthur’s leadership. His dual role reflects his versatility and the high regard in which he is held across different formats of the game.
