Tax evaders may face barrage of restrictions

The federal government is mulling introducing several measures in the budget against tax evaders, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

There is a proposal to impose restrictions on those who are not registered as taxpayers.   

One such proposal is to empower the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to bar the non-registered individuals from having their bank accounts.  

Similarly, there is also a proposal to authorize the FBR to bar these persons from transferring their immovable properties; to seal their businesses, and seize their immovable properties.

Likewise, there is also a suggestion to ban the purchase, registration and booking of vehicles by persons who are not registered as taxpayers, barring the vehicles which are of 800 cc. 

However, there will be no ban on the purchase of rickshaws, motorcycles and tractors by them.    

A proposal is also under consideration to limit these persons' banking transactions.

Now people will be able to mention the names of their family members such as parents, spouses and children, including unmarried daughters and widows, of up to 25 years of age, in their income tax returns.
