Leave it to govt to decide which side it will take in Iran war, says Azam Tarar

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar on Tuesday asked people to let the government decide which side it would take in the war in the Gulf, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad with Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry sitting alongside him, the minister urged people to refrain from commenting on the country’s foreign policy on social media.

He asserted that there were limits to the freedom of expression. “It should be within the law and the constitution,” the minister said.

Azam went on to say that in the wake of war in the Gulf, Pakistan had done its best to defuse tension in the region.

He informed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was in touch with countries in the region. Pakistan emphatically presented its opinion on Iran war at the United Nations’ Security Council (UNSC). “Pakistan’s stance on its defence and foreign affairs is clear,” Azam said, adding that the country wanted a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Gulf.

Speaking on the occasion, Atta Tarar said that Pakistan had a special place in the world. “The country’s security and other interests are supreme,” he added.

The minister said that making comments on social media on foreign policy were not beneficial for the country. “We should avoid spreading sensationalism in the current circumstances,” he emphasized.
