Princess Andre reveals heartbreaking childhood trauma

Princess Andre has opened up about the painful realities of her childhood, revealing she ‘saw things kids shouldn’t see’ while growing up with her famous mother, Katie Price, during some of the star’s most troubled years.

The 18-year-old daughter of Katie and ex-husband Peter Andre made the emotional revelations during the first episode of her new ITV reality series The Princess Diaries, which aired on Sunday night.

Princess said she is still healing from the aftermath of her mum’s personal struggles, chaotic relationships, and public scandals.

“I wish I could have had a happier childhood,” she admitted. “I had so much on my plate at such a young age. When my mum and Kieran [Hayler] split up, I was just 10. He had been in our lives for five years, and when that ended, everything went downhill.”

Katie’s marriage to Kieran collapsed in 2018 after multiple infidelities, with the former glamour model later admitting to a suicide attempt and using drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism. Princess revealed that her mum’s breakdown left a lasting mark. “It was things kids shouldn’t see,” she said. “When we needed our mum, she wasn’t there because she had her own problems.”

The young reality star explained she now sees a counsellor to process the trauma, adding that it wasn’t always easy to confide in her father due to her parents’ strained post-divorce relationship. “I’m not fully healed, but Mum has fixed herself compared to back then. She apologised, and that meant a lot — now she’s my best friend.”

Princess also compared life in her parents’ homes, describing her mum’s as “chaotic” with few rules, while her dad’s was more structured. Despite their differences, she credits both for shaping her into the person she is today.

The episode also explored Princess’s struggles with self-image, admitting she “used to hate” her nose and lips and was bullied over her looks as a child. While Katie is known for embracing cosmetic surgery, she has advised her daughter against it at a young age. “I’m not against surgery, but Mum told me I’m beautiful the way I am,” Princess said.

Meanwhile, a separate moment in the show left Peter visibly disturbed when Princess shared some of the inappropriate and sexual messages she had received online since becoming a social media influencer. “That really made me feel sick,” the singer said, after learning some men had been asking his daughter for explicit pictures.

Katie Price has previously spoken about her darkest period, saying her breakdown and reliance on cocaine stemmed from deep emotional pain. Diagnosed with ADHD after her stay in rehab, she has since rebuilt her life and is now in a happy relationship.

For Princess, however, the scars of her childhood remain. “I’m not fully recovered,” she said, “but I’m in a better place  and so is Mum.”

This deeply personal debut episode set the tone for The Princess Diaries, promising more unfiltered glimpses into the young star’s journey through fame, family, and finding herself.
