Sindh cabinet raises wheat support price by Rs600
The wheat support price has now been fixed at Rs2,000 per maund after the increase of Rs600.
The cabinet also approved purchase of 1.4 million metric tonnes of wheat this year.
The meeting was briefed that the Sindh Government had bought 1.236MMT wheat in 2019-20 and purchased 117,ooo ton imported wheat from the Centre. Now the Sindh Food Department has 1.8 million tons of wheat in stock.
Food Minister Hari Ram said the wheat stocks are enough for the province until the new crops arrives.
The Sindh Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, also rejected allegations of hoarding wheat levelled by the Federal Cabinet, saying the wheat crisis erupted after six million tons of wheat disappeared in Punjab.
Asking the Centre to refrain from levelling such accusations, the Sindh Cabinet said it will review the wheat stocks in the province.
A committee has been formed including Mukesh Chawla, Shabbir Bajarani, Hari Ram and Anti-Corruption Minister Ikramullah Dhareejo. The committee will present a report to the Sindh Cabinet in two weeks about wheat stocks in the province.

The Sindh Cabinet also endorsed a memorandum of understanding signed with Kuwait Investment Authority under which the Kuwait government’s company will invest in 30 MGD water supply to DHA, Keenjhar Lake Reservoir Project and TP-3 Water Treatment Plant.
