Punjab to impose Section 144 as part of Muharram security

The Punjab government has decided to impose Section 144 across the province as part of the Muharram security plan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Section 144 will be imposed across Punjab from 1st to 10th of Muharram.

No new innovations will be introduced in Muharram processions and gatherings.

Display of all types of weapons and incendiary materials in public places without permission of the authorized authority has been banned.

Inflammatory slogans and gestures that hurt public sentiments, beliefs and sects have also been banned.

Section 144 imposed on statements and comments that incite communal or racial hatred through any means or device.

Strict action will be taken against spreading communal hatred through social media or other means.

Construction of fronts on the roofs of houses or other buildings located on the procession routes has been banned.

Collecting stones, bricks, bottles or garbage on the roofs of buildings located on the procession routes also banned.

Presence of spectators on the roofs of buildings or shop and windows along the route during the procession also banned.

Pillion riding also banned except for senior citizens, women and law enforcement officials.

All restrictions except pillion riding will be applicable from 1st to 10th Muharram.

Ban on pillion riding will be applicable on 9th and 10th Muharram.

The Punjab Home Secretary has imposed restrictions under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898.

Section 144 has been imposed to maintain law and order and religious harmony during Muharram.

Protection of life and property of citizens is the top priority of the Punjab government

The Punjab Home Department has issued orders for the implementation of Section 144.

Directions have been issued to publicize the restrictions imposed during Muharram through all media and create public awareness.
