Govt to introduce reforms in PIA, PR on war footing

What could be described as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government’s big decision on the loss-incurring state-owned departments, the Ministry of Finance on Thursday decided not to privatize the departments incurring the loss of Rs100 billion, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Quoting sources, the channel reported that the ministry had also decided to introduce reforms in 14 large loss-incurring state-owned departments.
Sources said that the government had decided to introduce reforms on a war footing in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Railways (PR) besides PTV, WAPDA and Pakistan Post while it had decided against privatizing Radio Pakistan, Gwadar Port Authority, SMEDA and PEPCO.
They further said that in 2019, the total loss suffered by PIA and Pakistan Railways stood at Rs88 billion.
The national flag carrier and Pakistan Railways had suffered losses of over Rs56 billion and over Rs32 billion, respectively in 2019.
It has been learnt that the government has also decided to expand the cargo operations of PR.
