16-year-old Ahsan Ramzan wins IBSF World Snooker Championship
16-year-old Pakistani cueist Ahsan Ramzan Friday beat Iran's Amir Sarkhosh to become IBSF World Snooker Champion.
Ahsan Ramzan defeated his countryman Mohammad Asif qualify for the final of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championship in Doha, Qatar.
In a high-octane clash, the young Pakistani cueist held his nerves calm and put solid defense to overcome veteran Amir by 6-5 in match comprised over 5 hours and 20 minutes.
The final scoreboard read 63-60, 91-0(70), 56-34, 01-102(102), 28-68, 27-66, 86-18, 1-70, 69-0, 63-17 and 67-25.
With this victory, Ahsan becomes youngest Pakistani cueist to win the IBSF World Snooker Championship. Earlier, Pakistan's Mohammad Asif became world champion twice in 2012 and 2019 while Mohammad Yousuf achieved the feat in 1994.
China's Yan Bingtao holds the record of being the youngest world snooker champion. He was aged 14 when he lifted the prestigious title. Zhou Yuelong and Chang Bingyu achieved this milestone aged 15.
The 16-year-old beat the defending World Champion Mohammad Asif by 5-4 in the semifinals and was visibly emotional after his career-defining win.
Ahsan continued his meteoric rise through the ranks of the Pakistan snooker scene. The habile cueist already has national U-16, U-17, and U-18 titles under his belt.
By virtue of attaining the top two rankings in national tournaments, Ahsan qualified to represent the country in the IBSF World Snooker Championship being held at Doha.
Ahsan turned to professional snooker after forgoing his education after passing eighth grade due to the sudden demise of his father three years ago. The youngster had already lost his mother when he was just four.
