Team of Pakistani women mountaineers scales 5,400 meters high Brila Peak

Pakistan’s women mountaineers scaled the 5,400 meters high Brila Peak on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Alpine Club of Pakistan.

Women from all four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan participated in the expedition. Journalist Mona Khan from Kashmir, Maria Bangash from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zeba Batool from Gilgit-Baltistan, Bisma Hassan from Punjab, Laraib Batool from Balochistan and Madiha Syed from Sindh joined the expedition. Bibi Afzon and Shahreen Khan from Islamabad led the expedition.

Women's step towards the mountains is a sign of empowerment, says the Alpine Club Pakistan. The adventure of female mountaineers began on September 7 from Skardu. The expedition included a four-day stay at Deosai Top. The first two days were spent on hiking exercises to prepare women for the summit.

Women generally do not get opportunities for extracurricular activities therefore such expeditions will be held in future as well, said Alpine Club Secretary Ayaz Shugri. He said the club is proud to bring together a new generation of female mountaineers from every region of Pakistan.

The guides of the expedition included renowned mountaineers Sajid Sadpara, Ashraf Sadpara, Fida Shugri and Sharif Sadpara. “We are very happy about this success of the women. Proud that we were also a part of this team,” said Sajid Sadpara.

“All the women have shown great courage. We hope that the Alpine Club will organize more such events,” said Ashraf Sadpara.
