8th death anniversary of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz observed

The eighth death anniversary of former First Lady Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif was observed today (Friday), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Begum Kalsoom Nawaz died in London on September 11, 2018, after a prolonged illness.

In 1971, she married the former prime minister and President of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Kalsoom Nawaz courageously resisted General Pervez Musharraf’s regime, assumed the leadership of the party, and supported the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in turbulent times.

She also became President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz from 1999 to 2022.

Begum Kalsoom Nawaz played a vital role in the promotion of democracy in the country, especially in 1999 during General ® Pervez Musharraf's tenure.

After the military coup of General ® Pervez Musharraf on October 12, 1999, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz faced serious political difficulties.

After the disqualification of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Begum Kalsoom Nawaz won the by-election in constituency NA-120 but could not take part in the election campaign due to her illness.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. She died in London and later buried in her native graveyard at Jati Umrah.
