Federal govt revises support package for deceased employees

The federal government has revised its support package for the families of deceased government employees, offering enhanced financial and other benefits, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.

The Establishment Division has issued an office memorandum, stating that the revised package will take effect from August 28, 2026.

According to the memorandum, the package has been divided into two categories: general deaths and security-related deaths.

For security-related deaths, a lump-sum grant ranging from Rs10 million to Rs20 million has been approved, depending on the employee’s pay grade.

The family of an employee who dies in a security-related incident will continue to receive his full salary and allowances until the date he would have reached retirement age.

The deceased employee’s children will also be provided free education up to graduation and post-graduation.

In addition, the widow or one of the children of the deceased employee will be offered permanent employment in BS-1 to BS-15.

The package also provides Rs13.5 million to Rs50 million, according to pay grade, for the purchase or construction of a house in cases of security-related deaths.

For deaths not related to security incidents, the revised package sets a lump-sum grant of Rs600,000 to Rs3 million, depending on the employee’s grade.

The heirs of an employee who dies of natural or general death will be entitled to 100 percent pension.

Families of employees who had served for less than 10 years will receive pension calculated based on a minimum of 10 years of service.

The facility of official accommodation or a rented house will continue for the family until the deceased employee’s retirement date or for a minimum period of five years, according to the memorandum.

The government has directed all ministries and departments to keep the details of employees’ legal heirs and GP Fund nominations updated and on record in advance.

An officer will also be designated as a counsellor in every ministry to ensure that all entitled facilities are provided to the bereaved family within one month.

The new package will apply to all permanent federal government employees.

The Establishment Division said the new notification would supersede the previous shuhada (martyrs) packages.
