Pakistani, US physicians agree to enhance academic and professional collaboration

President of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA), Dr Rao Babar, met with President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), Prof Shoaib Shafi, and former provincial minister for health and population welfare Dr Jamal Nasir in Islamabad to discuss avenues for strengthening academic, research and professional collaboration between medical communities in Pakistan and the United States.

During the meeting, the participants held detailed discussions on expanding collaboration in medical education, research, training and healthcare development. They stressed the importance of enabling Pakistani physicians to benefit from the latest advancements in medical science, research and healthcare technology in order to further improve the quality of healthcare services in the country.

The participants noted that Pakistani physicians working in the United States have earned international recognition for their professional excellence and are well-positioned to contribute significantly to the development of Pakistan’s healthcare sector through knowledge-sharing and institutional partnerships. Both sides agreed to enhance formal engagement and cooperation between APPNA and CPSP. As part of this initiative, preliminary consultations have already begun to establish a framework for future collaboration.

Under the proposed arrangements, the two organisations will facilitate training programmes, workshops, seminars and academic exchange opportunities for physicians, surgeons and healthcare professionals. The meeting also underscored the importance of sharing expertise in advanced medical research, specialised clinical skills and emerging treatment methodologies. Participants observed that greater cooperation would strengthen medical education and improve healthcare delivery systems in Pakistan.

They expressed confidence that stronger professional ties between Pakistani and American physicians would not only contribute to the advancement of the medical profession but would also translate into better healthcare outcomes and improved access to quality medical services for the public.

Dr Rao Babar, Prof Shoaib Shafi and Dr Jamal Nasir reaffirmed their commitment to developing a sustainable and effective mechanism for collaboration between medical professionals of the two countries, aimed at promoting research, education, training and innovation in the healthcare sector.
