Kashmore gang-rape shocks Pakistan
The man involved in the gang-rape of a woman and her five-year-old girl in Kashmore confessed committing the crime, saying he and his accomplices sexually assaulted the victims for two days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Rafique Malik said this in a confessional statement recorded in a video at the lockup of local police station.
Malik had lured the woman, Tabassum Mughal, with false promises of well-paid job but raped not only her but also her little child, Alisha, who is being treated at Chandka Children Hospital in Larkana.
According to Dr Siraj Ahmed Soomro, Alisha is now out of danger. However, her condition was serious till Wednesday. A wound caused by torture has been stitched. However, she would be kept in the hospital for another five days so that any complication arising out of the surgery could be avoided.
Earlier, Tabassum demanded that the accused should be hanged in public and said four of them had raped them.
Meanwhile, the initial video showing the victims on social media triggered outpouring of anger, as people were shocked by this heinous act, demanding exemplary punishment for the culprits. As of Thursday afternoon, it was the top trend on Twitter.
Kashmir is currently gripped by shock and grief over this barbaric incident. In this connection, a large number of citizens staged a rally, urging the Supreme Court to take notice of the matter and hang the culprits in public.
On the other hand, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail took notice of the issue and sought a report from the provincial police chief and the chief secretary.
Similarly, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari said the horrific case showed how a bestial mindset continued ravaging the society despite existing laws.
