A cold war is going on between Punjab government and Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman as the latter has approved two bills in public interest but returned two others to the provincial assembly after raising objections to them, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The governor approved Punjab Ehsas Programme Bill, 2022 and Punjab Industries Control on Establishment & Enlargement (Amend) Bill, 2022.
The governor returned the Women Protection Bill against Violence (Ament) 2022 to the Punjab Assembly with recommendations for improvement in the bill.
He suggested to enlarge the definition of violence in the bill as its description in the bill was limited. He said that due to limited definition of the domestic violence in the bill, many people who perpetrate violence on women, they could escape the law.
According to the governor’s spokesperson, the Punjab Assembly keeps sending bills to the governor without adopting a devised procedure and proper channel. But the governor is approving these bills in the public interest, the spokesperson concluded.
