Abbas named joint Player of Series despite Pakistan’s 3-0 whitewash

Pakistan fast bowler Muhammad Abbas was named joint Player of the Series despite Pakistan’s 3-0 Test series defeat against England, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

Abbas shared the award with England fast bowler Ollie Robinson.

England completed a clean sweep by winning the third and final Test at Edgbaston, but 36-year-old Abbas remained Pakistan’s standout bowler throughout the series.

Abbas took 13 wickets in five innings at an impressive average of 25.38. He also made a valuable contribution with the bat, scoring 86 runs, including a career-best 42 in the second innings of the final Test.

His 42 helped Pakistan avoid an innings defeat and set England a target of 130 runs in the match.

Meanwhile, 32-year-old right-arm England pacer Ollie Robinson was the leading wicket-taker of the series. He claimed 21 wickets in six innings at an exceptional average of 8.76, besides scoring 58 runs.
