FIR lodged after PML-N leader shot dead in Muridke

Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against eight unidentified accused who were involved in the gruesome murder of PML-N leader and former municipal chairman Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed in Muridke, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The FIR was registered on behalf of the victim’s brother Sheikh Kabir. The District Police Officer (DPO) said the investigators have collected all important evidence from the crime scene.

He further said that four special teams were constituted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) Nawaz Siyal.

The victim, Sheikh Shabbir, was a close associate of Rana Tanveer Hussain and was father of five children. His funeral prayers will be offered at 2:00 pm today at Canal Rest House in Muridke.

Later, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain contacted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Punjab and demanded the early arrest of all accused.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also took notice of the incident and summoned a detailed report from the IGP.

Anjuman-e-Tajaran President Sheikh Adnan announced the closure of all business activities in the city today to mourn the death of Sheikh Shabbir.

Earlier, former chairman of the Muridke municipal committee Sheikh Shabbir was shot dead by unidentified armed men in a firing incident on Friday night.

The assailants intercepted the vehicle of Shabbir Ahmed near Kala Shah Kaku and opened indiscriminate fire. He died at the scene from his injuries.

Eyewitnesses said the victim’s car was riddled with bullets in the attack. The gunmen fled the scene while brandishing their weapons.
