As excitement builds around Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood with Abir Gulaal, veteran actress Sushmita Sen has voiced her support for cross-border artistic collaborations, stating that "creativity knows no boundaries."
Fawad Khan, the Pakistani heartthrob known for his performances in Khoobsurat and Kapoor & Sons, is making a comeback in Hindi cinema after nearly nine years. The teaser for his upcoming romantic comedy Abir Gulaal, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, was released recently to overwhelming response from fans. The film, directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and produced by Vivek Agarwal and Firuzi Khan, is set to hit theatres on May 9, 2025.
While attending a public event with her ex-boyfriend Rohman Shawl, Sushmita Sen was asked about Fawad’s much-talked-about comeback and the broader conversation surrounding Pakistani actors in Indian films. She told Instant Bollywood,
"Dekhiye, mujhe itna sab nahi pata. Mujhe sirf yeh pata hai ki hunar aur creativity mein koi boundaries nahi hoti hain. Honi bhi nahi chahiye. Kyunki yahi ek cheez hai. Ek sports hai, aur ek humari creative field hai jahan par our creativity is born from freedom. So I wish that for everyone. There is no sarhad for that."
When asked if she would consider working in a Pakistani film, the Aarya star responded without hesitation:
“I will always do a good film. Doesn’t matter where it comes from.”
Sushmita’s candid response has been met with praise on social media, with many users lauding her inclusive perspective and focus on artistic merit over political divides.
Fawad Khan’s last appearance in a Hindi film was in Karan Johar’s 2016 release Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. With Abir Gulaal, his return marks a hopeful moment for fans who’ve long missed his charm on Indian screens.
