Supreme Court commutes prison term awarded to convicted rapist

The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday commuted 20-year prison term awarded to a convict in a rape case to five years rigorous imprisonment along with fine, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan wrote the majority verdict, while Justice Salahuddin Panhwar differed with other judges on the bench.

A trial court had sentenced Hassan Khan to 20 years behind bars.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) had later upheld the court verdict.

The apex court observed that the FIR of the incident was registered after seven months.

It also noted that the victim, a woman, did not offer resistance during the sexual intercourse, and that no marks of either torture or resistance were noticed during the medical examination.

Therefore, the judges wrote, the case was not that of rape.
