Opposition urges to Govt to admit negligence over Imran’s eye issue

Senate on Friday witnessed a discussion on the health of the PTI founder, with JUI Senator Kamran Murtaza urged the government to decide about the treatment of former prime Minister Imran Khan on humanitarian grounds, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel. 

Addressing the Senate session, Senator Kamran Murtaza said that in Pakistan in order to prove illness one has to wait for death. Senator Raja Nasir Abbas said that government should accept its negligence regarding looking after of Imran Khan health. Nasir Abbas said that medical doctor who showed PTI Founder's eye was not a retina specialist. 

He said that Opposition will file case if there was any negligence regarding the health of Imran Khan. 

On the occasion Senator Pervez Rashid urging lawmakers and the public to avoid politicising medical issues and instead rely on verified medical assessments.

Speaking on the floor of the House, Pervez Rashid said every sick individual, including prisoners, deserved sympathy and proper medical care, stressing that access to treatment was a fundamental right that should not be influenced by political considerations.

He added that no civilised society could justify denying healthcare facilities to any detainee. However, the senator cautioned against what he described as exaggerated narratives surrounding the PTI founder’s health.

He argued that reports submitted by court-appointed representatives had already clarified the factual position regarding the prisoner’s medical condition.

Pervez Rashid also referred to earlier social media speculation suggesting — “God forbid” — that the PTI founder had passed away, noting that such claims later proved unfounded.

He said recent discussions about eyesight issues appeared to follow a similar pattern of unverified speculation, which he termed inappropriate and irresponsible.

He emphasised that discussions on health matters should be guided by professional medical evaluations rather than political rhetoric, warning that politicising illness risked undermining the seriousness of parliamentary debate as well as public trust.

The senator concluded by stating that medical care was being provided in accordance with legal and judicial requirements, reiterating the need for restraint and factual accuracy when addressing sensitive health-related issues in political discourse. 

During the Senate session, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah claimed that the PTI founder complained for the first time about an eye issue in the first week of January, contrary to the claim of PTI that their founder had been complaining about this for the past four months.

He emphasised that medical treatment was provided promptly, without any delay. He further noted that the treatment administered was properly documented. Sanaullah advised PTI not to do politics on the health of its founding chairman. 

He said that jail doctors examine the PTI founding chairman every second day as part of routine medical care. He said separate medical boards had reviewed his health condition twenty-five times. Rana Sana said there was no reference to his eye ailment in the medical board held on December 9, 2025. 

He further said, “If the PTI has any suggestions regarding the medical care of its founding chairman, it should approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan,” assuring that any directions issued by the apex court would be fully implemented.
