In order to ensure the arrest of proclaimed offenders (POs) in Punjab, work on updating the national identity cards of the POs wanted by the police in connection with 2,000 crimes in the system has begun, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Police officials have said that the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has been approached to obtain the family trees of these POs so that they could be arrested.

The investigation headquarters will monitor the entire process.

The officials have informed that in Punjab, over 200,000 POs are still at large.

They have further said that last year, the police had arrested over 98,000 such criminals.

However, 3,500 POs of category A could not be arrested, they have elaborated.
