The Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan Monday submitted additional documents in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in a case pertaining to Sugar Inquiry Commission case and maintained the commission was made as per Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Act 2017, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
The gazette notification of the Sugar Inquiry Commission (SIC) also part of the additional documents submitted on Monday.
The TV channel reported that as per the document, the Sugar Inquiry Commission prepared a detailed report on sugar price hike after obtaining information.
“The SIC in its report pointed out the violation of rules by the sugar industry. The document was sent to the regulators for implementation after the federal government approved the report,” the document reads.
Sugar Mill Association members filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court against the report which was rejected. The document argued that the notification of the commission was not issued in time. Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) was fully aware of the composition of the commission.
The document argued that the issue of issuing of notification has not been challenged at any forum.
“The delay in the publication of the notification does not cause any major harm. The allegation of violation of Article 4 of the document by the owners of the document is baseless. The sugar inquiry report was as per the basic human rights and Article 9 of Constitution of Pakistan,” the document reads.
