Jurassic Park star Sam Neill dies at 78 after sudden passing

Jurassic Park star Sam Neill has died at the age of 78, his family confirmed on Monday on his Instagram account.

He passed away in Sydney, Australia, with his family by his side.

In their statement, they described his death as sudden and unexpected, while also sharing that he had remained cancer-free after his earlier battle with blood cancer.

The family thanked the doctors and staff at St Vincent's Private Hospital for caring for Neill and asked for privacy as they mourn his loss.

They said more information would be shared in due course.

Born on September 14, 1947, Sam Neill was raised in New Zealand after moving there from Northern Ireland as a child.

He became one of the country's most respected actors and gained global fame for playing Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park films.

He also appeared in popular movies and television productions such as The Piano, Dead Calm, The Hunt for Red October and Peaky Blinders, leaving behind a career that spanned more than 50 years.
