Head of May 9 incidents JIT DIG Imran Kishwar resigns

The head of the joint investigation team (JIT) investigating the violent incidents of May 9 resigned on Friday.

Imran Kishwar, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Punjab Police, was the head of the JIT and he has sent his resignation to Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Dr Usman Anwer.

According to 24NewsHD TV, Imran Kishwar has resigned from the Police Service of Pakistan. He wrote in his resignation that he upheld his oath strongly and paid the price for this uprightness multiple times. He said that he is at a point where he cannot serve this position anymore. He said that he has rendered his services with respect, but now he cannot serve in silence anymore.

However,  police officials confirmed that the resignation of DIG Admin Imran Kishwar has yet to be received by the Inspector General (IG) Punjab’s office.

According to sources, the Punjab IGP will make a final decision on whether to accept, forward, or halt the resignation once the official document is received. The matter remains uncertain as no formal resignation has been processed within the police establishment.

Further developments are expected as authorities review the situation.

An officer of the 33rd common, Imran Kishwar is currently serving as DIG Admin in Lahore. According to sources, it was a meeting of the board of officers from the rank of SSP to DIG. Imran Kishwar was on number 21 on seniority list but he was not given promotion. Frustrated at denial of promotion, sources said, DIG Imran Kishwar submitted his resignation.

In September 2023, the JIT named Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan and the party’s central, provincial and local leadership as mastermind of the May 9 incidents, declaring that the Jinnah House was attacked with their consensus. The JIT prepared the finding report which was later submitted to an anti-terrorism court. It declared Imran and the top PTI leadership guilty of May 9 incidents by inciting people through a fake stance.
