Preparations have begun to increase the salaries of those officers who are working on the project posts, as the finance department summoned a meeting on Friday, which would be chaired by the chief secretary.
24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday that the officers from all departments working in MP-1 Scale and other project posts would benefit from the proposal.
The officers from the following departments will get their salaries increased if the proposal is approved.
Home, agriculture, school education, higher education, specialised healthcare, primary and secondary healthcare, public prosecution, environment, Planning and Development, Board of Revenue, power, finance, excise and taxation, housing and urban development, transport, women development and population welfare.
The suggestion comes despite the fact that Punjab is facing a severe financial crunch with the budget deficit soaring to the historic level of Rs6.64 trillion, as the province did not get the complete share of Rs10 trillion from the Centre under the NFC (National Finance Commission) Award.
Although Punjab was supposed to get Rs10 trillion as its share, the actual amount that it has received is just Rs5.38 trillion.
On the other hand, the situation on the front of revenue collection is also dismal with the province generating Rs1.26 trillion only against a target of Rs3.50 trillion.
