Govt seeks more time for revealing foreign gifts’ details
IHC judge observes govt should public all gifts received in last 10 years
The government has once again asked for more time from the Islamabad High Court to make the details of foreign gifts public. The court adjourned the hearing of the case on the government’s plea, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb remarked that if the government did not want to disclose the details of arms (defence) related gifts, it could conceal its details but it should make the details of other gifts public.
The judge wondered why the government was not revealing the details. Why it is abashed on revealing the details, he said adding that the gifts presented to the rulers were in fact public property.
“If a person does not hold a public office, he will not be presented any foreign gifts,” he remarked.
He said that the government should make details of all the gifts given to the rulers during last 10 years public.
Justice Aurangzeb questioned if a ruler was presented with a necklace gift, why should he hide its details?
“Why the government does not keep all the gifts in a museum, he asked?”
The judge also asked the government to reveal the worth of gifts after sending them to the Federal Board of Revenue for the estimation of their price.
