The former prime minister has said the appointment of the new army chief should be postponed till the new government is elected.
In a private TV channel interview, he said Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa should continue till the next elections.
The former premier said free and fair elections are a must, he said, laying stress on maintaining merit.
The bigwigs of ruling allies are not qualified for appointing the new army chief because they have a criminal record and cannot maintain merit, questioning how can a fugitive with just 85 seats appoint a new army chief.
The PTI chairman said that the floods have wreaked havoc in the country.
He set alarm bells ringing, saying an economic crisis is looming as the flood aftermaths will surface in winter.
He came down hard on the government for failing to control inflation. "I am ready to talk with everyone, but first we will talk about the general elections. The coalition government is afraid of the PTI's popularity so how can I hold talks," said the former premier.
