As the rains receded and the floodwater lost its strength to multiple breaches in Manchhar Lake, the water level in the lake finally dropped by one foot reaching 121.5 RL (reduced level) on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the Irrigation Department, the floodwater in Manchhar Lake has begun to discharge into the Indus River from five different places.

“90,000 cusecs of floodwater are being discharged daily into the Indus River,” the Irrigation Department said.

“The floodwater inundated 10 union councils of Sehwan tehsil, causing great destruction in the area. Hundreds of houses collapsed due to water in 600 villages,” it added.

However, it merits a mention here that relief could not be provided to the people in the flood-hit areas despite the directions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and the flood victims are still helpless under the open sky.

To save the city of Bhan Syedabad from flooding, the citizens are engaged in strengthening the embankment day and night.

In every village, diseases have broken out due to water everywhere. Children and women have fallen prey to gastroenteritis, malaria and other diseases.
