August 14, 2020 01:14 PM

Although Pakistan has successfully managed to reduce the spread of coronavirus, new cases are still being reported from different parts of the country.

The latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Friday morning show that the virus was found in another 626 people during the past 24 hours (Thursday), raising the overall number to 287,300.

The region-wise spread of this deadly virus is most prominent in Sindh where the number of cases currently stands at 125,289. It is followed by 94,993 in Punjab, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,342 in Islamabad, 12,062 in Balochistan, 2,426 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 2,167 in Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, 14 more people lost their lives during the same period after being infected by the virus. It means 6,153 deaths have so far been officially reported in the country since the pandemic outbreak.

This downward trend in the active coronavirus cases and the resultant reduced burden on health facilities was possible due to the fact that 265,215 people have so far fully recovered from the infection.

It means the country currently has 15,932 active coronavirus cases, a marked decline when we compare these figures with those from June. However, 774 of these patients are still in critical condition and being treated in the intensive care units of different hospitals.

Meanwhile, the testing process is continuing across the country with 23,745 tests administered on Thursday, increasing the overall number to 2,229,409.
