11 killed, several injured in Karachi mini truck blast

At least 11 people including women and children were killed and many others got injured in a suspected terrorist attack in the Baldia Mowach Goth area of Karachi, reported 24News HD TV channel on Saturday.
According to SSP Fida Hussain Januri, three persons were killed on the spot and many others got injured when an explosion took place in a Shehzore vehicle killing.
Upon learning of the incident, the police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the hospital, where eight more people died. Six women and three children were among the deceased.
Rescue sources said that the injured people had been shifted to Civil Hospital where they were being treated.
SSP Fida Hussain Januri said the place of the explosion was completely sealed and an investigation had been started.
SSP Januri told that it seemed the explosion was an act of terrorism after initial investigations. He said the security agencies had started search operations in the area.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, taking notice of the incident, directed police and district administration to transport injured people to nearby hospitals, in District Keamari and West.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the chief minister directed the concerned authorities to provide all possible assistance to the affected families.
Moreover, newly-appointed Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab contacted deputy commissioner Keamari and sought details of the tragic incident from him.
While talking to the media, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in-charge Raja Umar Khatab said that initial investigation revealed that it was a hand grenade blast that destroyed the left side of the vehicle.
He said that they doubted some motorcyclists attacked the vehicle with a hand grenade that exploded in the vehicle. He said, however, there was not any explosive in the vehicle. He said that the family was coming back home after attending a marriage ceremony.
According to the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), it was a hand grenade attack that was made locally. The BDS has identified it as RGD1 grenade carrying 65 grams of explosive material.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed took the notice of the blast and sought a report from IG Sindh and DG Rangers in this regard. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
He said that federal institutions would cooperate with the Sindh government for investigations.
Governor Sindh Imran Ismael condemned the attack and showed his grief over the loss of precious lives. He has also sought a detailed report from Additional IG Karachi.
