Goods transporters’ strike enters seventh day

All Pakistan Goods Transporters Ittehad President Malik Shehzad Awan has said that the their strike entered its seventh day on Friday and another round of talks with Federal Minister for Shipping Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and the Sindh government will be held today, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a video message, Malik Shehzad Awan said that he held a detailed meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in Karachi yesterday, after which he directed relevant ministers to immediately address the demands of goods transporters.

He said that our peaceful strike will continue till unlimited time and we will accept any verbal assurance from the federal and provincial governments.

He further revealed that the goods transporters' strike will continue till the issuance of an official notification regarding acceptance of their demands.

Meanwhile, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) President Muhammad Ikram Rajput has expressed fear that if the transporters strike continues further, there may be a fear of shortage in the market due to the disruption in the supply of food and other essential items within the country.

He said that the government must make the negotiation process fruitful and remove the concerns of all parties to end the goods transporters’ strike so that the delivery of essential goods, industrial production, business activities and export processes in the country can be normalized.
