Pakistani doctors successfully removes twin from inside young boy’s chest
Doctors at Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Rahimyar Khan successfully removed an unformed twin from the chest of a five-year-old boy in a rare surgery procedure, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Thoracic Surgeon Dr Sultan Awaisi led the complicated and unique surgery removing the partially-formed twin from the boy.
The twin, which was hidden along the ribs, appeared to be posing a serious threat to the young boy’s life.
Dr Awaisi said, “A baby found inside the brother's body after being born is a rare medical event in the world.”
Dr Sultan Awaisi said that these ribs were very close to the child’s heart veins. Dr Awaisi said that the child was brought to the hospital’s pulmonary department after a cough infection.
He said that during the CT Scan, the presence of another baby was confirmed and there are only a few cases of a baby inside a child near the ribs reported around the the world.
