Vehicle sales surge 46% in first half of FY as Pakistan’s auto sector shows recovery

Islamabad: Pakistan’s auto sector recorded strong growth during the first six months of the current fiscal year, with overall vehicle sales rising by 46 percent, according to a report released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).

The report stated that total vehicle sales increased to 88,322 units during the July–December period, compared to the same period last year.

Sales of jeeps and pickups rose by 58 percent to 22,412 units, while truck sales showed the highest growth, jumping by 106 percent to 3,071 units. Bus sales also increased by 52 percent to 461 units.

According to PAMA, sales of motorcycles and rickshaws also witnessed significant growth, increasing by 33 percent to 921,566 units during the six-month period.

Auto sector expert Mashhood Khan said the figures indicate a major recovery for the industry. He attributed the growth primarily to the stability of the rupee and a decline in interest rates, which have improved consumer confidence and purchasing power.

However, the report noted a decline in tractor sales, which fell by 26 percent to 12,929 units in the first half of the current fiscal year.

Despite this decline, industry experts believe that the overall auto sector is expected to maintain its sales momentum in the coming months, supported by improving economic indicators and easing financial conditions.
