Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Turkish leadership, receives military medal during official visit

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Turkey’s political and military leadership during a high-level official visit aimed at strengthening strategic and defence cooperation between the two countries, the military’s media wing said Tuesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Field Marshal Munir, who serves as chief of army staff and chief of defence forces, met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Defence Minister Yaşar Güler.

The meetings focused on bilateral relations, regional security and ways to expand the long-standing strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkey, the ISPR said.

The military said the discussions reflected a shared desire to deepen cooperation in response to an evolving geopolitical and security environment.

Field Marshal Munir was received with a guard of honour at the Turkish General Staff headquarters, where he held detailed talks with Chief of the Turkish General Staff Gen. Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.

The two military leaders discussed regional security developments, defence cooperation and professional matters of mutual interest.

During the visit, Bayraktaroğlu awarded Field Marshal Munir the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal in recognition of his services and contribution to strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.

Field Marshal Munir also visited the Turkish Land Forces headquarters, where he was received by Land Forces Commander Gen. Metin Tokel.

Field Marshal Munir also visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, where he laid a floral wreath and paid tribute to the founder of modern Turkey.

The military said the visit acknowledged Atatürk’s leadership and the historical ties between Pakistan and Turkey.

The ISPR said Field Marshal Munir received a warm welcome on his arrival, reflecting the close and brotherly relationship between the two countries.

It said the visit demonstrated the commitment of Pakistan and Turkey to strengthening their multifaceted defence relationship and continuing joint efforts for regional peace and stability.
