Senate panel chair vows legal action over private schools’ refusal to honour 10% quota

Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training Chairperson Bushra Anjum Butt has announced plans to join legal proceedings against private schools accused of refusing admission to deserving students under a 10% quota, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Butt said private schools had challenged instructions requiring them to admit eligible children under the quota.

“We will fight this matter legally,” she said.

According to Butt, authorities had directed private schools to reserve 10% of their admissions for deserving students, but some institutions responded by initiating legal action instead of implementing the order.

She said the committee had received a letter from the schools informing it of the legal challenge.

Butt criticised the schools’ position, saying educational institutions earning profits in Pakistan should also fulfil their social responsibilities.

“Pakistan is our country. If you are making a profit from here, then you should give something in return,” she said.

She said access to education for deserving children should not be blocked and that the quota was intended to ensure that students from less privileged backgrounds could study at private institutions.

The committee chairperson said she would pursue the matter through legal channels to defend the admission rights of eligible students.
