Muharram moon unlikely to be sighted on June 15: SUPARCO

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has forecasted regarding the expected sighting of the moon for Muharram-ul-Haram, indicating that the crescent is unlikely to be visible across the country on the evening of June 15.

According to SUPARCO, the new moon is expected to be born on June 15, 2026, at 7:54 am.

Based on astronomical calculations, the visibility of the Muharram crescent on the evening of the same day is considered highly unlikely.

As a result, the first day of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH is expected to fall on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, subject to the sighting of the moon.

SUPARCO emphasized that its assessment is based on scientific and astronomical data aimed at assisting moon-sighting efforts.

However, it reiterated that the final announcement regarding the beginning of the Islamic month will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing moon-sighting reports from across the country.
