Parliament House shut down for two days amid Covid third wave

The Parliament House has been closed down for two days as the third wave of coronavirus spread its tentacles in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

All the activities in the Parliament House have been suspended and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been asked to disinfect all the offices in the building during the two-day closure.

A notification in this regard has been issued by the administration department of the National Assembly which also cancelled meetings of all the standing committees, public accounts committee and special committees.

The Senate and National Assembly staff have been informed that the Parliament will remain shut until March 16 (Tuesday). They have also been directed to undergo test if they found any coronavirus symptoms on them.

The notification also directed the secretaries officers to call only the essential on duty from March 17.

Declaring the wearing of the face masks mandatory for entering the Parliament House, the notification said that the offices timings will be from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm from March 17.

The coronavirus infections continued their steady rise in Pakistan as the country recorded 2,664 Covid-19 cases and 32 deaths during the last 24 hours (Saturday), showed the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Sunday morning.

As per the latest NCOC figures, after the addition of 32 fatalities, the death toll in Pakistan has now surged to 13,508 whereas the number of total confirmed cases stood at 605,200, after adding 2,664 fresh ones.

During the past 24 hours (Saturday), 1,275 patients have recovered from the coronavirus while the number of total recoveries stood at 570,571 with the total count of active cases across Pakistan was 21,121.

The Punjab government had also enforced a raft of measures to check the third wave of the coronavirus.
