16 killed after fire engulfs chemical warehouse and garment factory in Bangladesh

At least 16 bodies have been recovered following a devastating fire that broke out in a garment printing factory and chemical warehouse in the Mirpur area of Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Tuesday.

Officials confirmed that the fire, which erupted late last night, is yet to be fully extinguished as rescue operations continue.

According to the Dhaka Fire Service, the blaze spread rapidly due to the presence of multiple types of chemicals stored inside the warehouse.

Fire Service Director stated that “six to seven types of chemicals, similar to those used in Tongi factories, were present, though the exact compounds remain unknown.”

The unpredictable nature of these chemicals has made firefighting efforts extremely challenging.

Firefighters are working relentlessly to bring the fire under control while emergency teams continue to search for missing persons.

Authorities have urged nearby residents to remain vigilant and prepared for any possible hazards as containment efforts proceed.

So far, 16 victims, all believed to be workers of the garment factory and chemical warehouse, have been recovered. Their bodies have been shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for identification and post-mortem examinations.

Meanwhile, three people who suffered severe burns, identified as M Suraj (30), Mohammad Mamun (35), and Sohel, are undergoing treatment at the Dhaka National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but investigations are underway.
