A man allegedly threw his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter into a canal in Toba Tek Singh district of Punjab, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported Wednesday.

According to police, a preliminary probe pointed out that the man took the cruel step because of poverty. The body of Urooj Fatima has been retrieved and the accused, Abid, has been taken into custody, the lawmen said.

Urooj Fatim was born twelve years after the marriage of the accused, the cops said adding that further investigations are underway.

Child dies after drowning 

A five-year-old child died after drowning in a pond in Kharian tehsil of Punjab.

Rescuers recovered the body and handed it over to the family. The incident made whole community members of the area gloomy.
