Social media’s microblogging side was abuzz Saturday with people around the globe join a top trend to mark India’s Independence Day as Black Day.

#15AugustBlackDay has become the top social media trends with users thwarting India for its oppression in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in particular and Narendra Modi’s government’s fascist policies and the imposition of Hindutva ideology in India and its aggression towards minorities including Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits and many others.

A complete lockdown was being observed on the occasion in IIOJK. A call for a complete strike has also been given by veteran Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani, whereas Chairperson of Awami Action Committee Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat forum which was supported by almost all Hurriyat organisations.

Geelani, in a message, said that a nation that resorts to usurpation and deprives others of their freedom loses every right to celebrate its independence. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) spokesperson in a statement deplored that all basic human rights and civil liberties have been ruthlessly snatched and violated by India in IIOJK.

Sikh groups such as Dal Khalsa, SAD (Amritsar) and United Akali Dal have also decided to observe August 15 as ‘black day’ and stage a protest across the state.

Kanwar Pal Singh, spokesperson of the Dal Khalsa said they would stage protests on Independence Day against atrocities, political subjugation, agri ordinances and ‘denial of rights’ to the people of Punjab in the last seven decades.

He said the indiscriminate use of black laws like UAPA on Sikh activists and anti-CAA protesters had raised alarm bells among the minorities, who are already at the receiving end of the oppressor state.

Here are some tweets from this top trend exposing Indian oppression and propaganda.
