India says border peace vital for better ties with China

India has said peace and stability along its disputed border with China are essential for improving bilateral relations, following reports of fresh tensions between troops from the two countries in a remote Himalayan area, 24NewsHD TV reported.

According to Reuters, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has issued its second statement on the issue in less than a week.

India and China have been working to ease tensions that sharply increased after deadly border clashes in 2020.

During a regular briefing on Tuesday, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi had consistently made clear in talks with Chinese officials that it regarded issues concerning the border areas with utmost seriousness.

He said the situation along the border would have an impact on the broader state of relations between India and China.

Jaiswal was responding to a question about reports of a fresh confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops in the disputed Himalayan region.

China’s Foreign Ministry and Defence Ministry have so far not commented on the reported incident.
