Bangladesh National Party's Tarique Rahman’s oath ceremony set for February 17
Heads of state from 13 countries, including Pakistan, invited
Dhaka is set to witness a historic oath-taking ceremony on February 17 as the newly elected Prime Minister, ministers, and members of parliament of Bangladesh prepare to assume office, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the report, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, having secured more than two-thirds of the seats in the 13th national parliamentary elections, has formally initiated the process of forming the new government.
In a break from long-standing tradition, the ceremony will be held at the South Plaza of the National Assembly in Dhaka, instead of the customary venue at Bangabhaban.
The morning session will see the newly elected members of parliament taking their oath, while the evening session will host the swearing-in of the new cabinet members.
The change in venue is intended to allow large-scale public participation and make the democratic process more accessible, providing ordinary citizens with greater opportunity to witness the historic event.
Invitations to attend the ceremony have been extended to heads of state from 13 countries, including China, India, and Pakistan. The invitations were sent under the signature of Dr Mohammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s caretaker government.
The newly elected parliamentarians will take their oath under the supervision of Bangladesh’s Chief Election Commissioner, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, while the new cabinet members will be sworn in by President Mohammad Shahabuddin.
