Dense fog forces closure of major Punjab motorways

Dense fog forced the closure of several major highways in Punjab on Sunday, disrupting traffic on key intercity routes, 24NewsHD TV channel reported

According to the motorway authorities, the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway and the M-2 Motorway from Lahore to Hiran Minar were shut down due to poor visibility.

Additional closures were reported on the M-4 Motorway from Khanewal to Multan and the M-5 Motorway from Multan to Zahir Pir.

Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the Central Region, said the closures were implemented to safeguard the lives and property of commuters, warning that dense fog can make driving extremely hazardous.

He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy fog and to prioritise daytime journeys during the winter season.

“The safest time for travel is between 10 am and 6 pm,” he said, advising motorists to exercise caution and follow official advisories before setting out.

Seasonal fog frequently blankets large parts of Punjab during winter, leading to temporary motorway closures and travel disruptions across the province.
