Pakistan's airspace becomes strategic route amid ongoing Iran-Israel conflict

As the conflict between Iran and Israel intensifies, several Middle Eastern airspaces—including those of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Israel—remain closed, forcing global airlines to seek safer alternatives.

In this context, Pakistan’s airspace has become a critical transit corridor.

Major international carriers, including Emirates, have begun routing flights through Pakistan for travel to destinations such as North America, Egypt, and other regions.

These rerouted paths now traverse western Pakistan before heading over Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, en route to Europe or the Americas.

This alternative route, though longer, has become a necessary adjustment to maintain international air travel in the wake of escalating regional tensions.

The continued closure of airspace over conflict-affected nations has placed pressure on global aviation logistics, increasing flight durations, operational costs, and fuel consumption.

However, it has also elevated Pakistan's significance in regional air traffic management, offering the country a strategic geopolitical and economic opportunity amid the crisis.
