Trump threatens to attack with full might; Khamenei vows befitting reply

Iran, denouncing the United States as a backer of Israeli aggression, cancelled its scheduled nuclear negotiations in Muscat. The move follows a stark warning from US President Donald Trump, who said that any form of attack by Iran on it would trigger an overwhelming American military response.

Iranian leadership responded strongly to Trump’s remarks. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a video message released by his office, stated that if anyone commits an atrocity against Iran, there will be a befitting reply. “The life of the attacker will be made difficult,” he warned, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

In the same video footage, Khamenei directly addressed Israel, declaring that the Zionist regime would be held accountable for its crimes. “Israel will not escape punishment,” he affirmed, emphasising that while Iran has never started a war, it will defend itself with full force if provoked.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a separate statement, emphasised that an attack on Iran would not be possible without Washington’s backing, and therefore any negotiations with the “main supporter of the aggressor” were now futile. “There is no longer any justification to continue negotiations with the US,” he stated firmly.

According to AFP, Abbas Araghchi said Sunday that Israel's attack on his country this week sought to "derail" nuclear talks with the United States.

"It is entirely clear that the Israeli regime does not want any agreement on the nuclear issue. It does not want negotiations and does not seek diplomacy," Araghchi told foreign diplomats, saying the attack launched on Friday was an "attempt to undermine diplomacy and derail negotiations".

Earlier today, US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Tehran on Sunday, stating, “If we are attacked in any way, shape, or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the US Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before.”

Trump also claimed that the United States had no role in the Israeli airstrikes that recently hit Iran’s nuclear and intelligence facilities, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported.

Trump concluded by saying that a peaceful resolution is still possible: “We can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel and end this bloody conflict!”

It is also pertinent to mention here that in a sharp escalation, Iran also issued a serious warning to the West, threatening to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if sanctions are reimposed.

Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations has addressed a formal letter to the UN Security Council, condemning Britain, France, and Germany for what it called “baseless accusations” against Tehran.

The Iranian envoy warned that any resumption of sanctions would force Tehran to formally exit the NPT, a move that could destabilise global nuclear diplomacy and escalate tensions even further in an already volatile region.
